Conducting Bio

Nathanael Hooper has been leading orchestras regularly since 2017. He is currently the Music Director and Conductor of the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon, as well as the director of the Chamber Orchestra at Rogue Community College.

Previous orchestras Nathanael has worked with include the Oklahoma State University Orchestra, Oklahoma State University Youth and Community Orchestra, Saratoga Orchestra of Whidbey Island, and the University Orchestra at Brigham Young University-Idaho. He has also worked with professional orchestras in masterclasses in New York and Ohio, including the Cleveland Pops Orchestra.

 

Nathanael recieved his Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting from Oklahoma State University. He also holds a Bachelor degree in Music Education from Brigham Young University-Idaho.

 

As a student, Nathanael has worked with many wonderful teachers including Thomas Taylor Dickey, Anna Edwards, Gary Lewis, Larry Livingston, Jeffery Meyer, Carl Topilow, Diane Wittry, and Jaap van Zweden.

 

Nathanael spent four years as a music educator in both Idaho and Arizona, working with orchestras and bands from grades 6-12. While working with students, Nathanael was praised for the tone quality of his ensembles, even the younger ones. He is frequently praised as passionate and energetic in concerts, and has been noticed for the exciting repertoire he has programmed for those concerts.
